FAQs

 Who are you anyway?

I am a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with an additional certification in menopause care through the Menopause Society.

I have been training and working in the health field for over 20 years.  Whether as a massage therapist and birth doula, an RN in cardiology and women's health, or as a FNP working in sexual and reproductive health, my mission has always been to help others navigate their way through challenging transitions with a calm demeanor and sense of humor.  I believe that leaving my ego at the door and using a shared-decision making model is central to providing sound healthcare.  In my personal life, you might find me gardening, recreating outdoors with friends, "trying" to be a good partner and mom, or volunteering in our local sports programs.

I look forward to meeting you!

Sarah Bouchard, APRN, FNP-C, MSCP

Why don't you take insurance?

My aim is to simplify and improve the patient-provider relationship by cutting out the middlemen where possible.  The complexity of our current system has led to increased frustration as a health care consumer (longer waits, less face time with your provider, delayed communication), and increased burnout for health care workers.  By reducing administrative burdens and harnessing technology, I can focus on what really matters, helping you get healthy and stay healthy.

What if I already have insurance?

While this membership model is great for many primary and preventive health care needs, my membership will not cover all acute/urgent care needs, emergency care, hospitalization, or any other specialist care that may be warranted.  A high deductible or catastrophic plan is recommended. Ultimately, it's your choice, and I will see you regardless of your insurance status.  Many patients use their insurance to obtain testing (labs or imaging) and pay for prescriptions at a pharmacy.

What if I need to cancel my membership?

Things change sometimes.  While I am interested in creating a positive and reliable health care relationship for those desiring that, I recognize that needs change, or I may not always be the right fit for you.  If you need to cancel, please reach out with 30 days notice so we can schedule a final visit to close the loop and find a good transition plan for you.  If you cancel and then decide to return to the practice, a $150 registration fee may apply.

Is Monarch only for women?

All people regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation are welcome in my practice. We all deserve a safe health care experience with a non-judgmental provider, and whether you are looking for something more personable or are navigating health anxiety or trauma (let's be real, healthcare itself can be traumatic) you will find the relaxed and simplified experience of my practice a welcomed change.

Can I use my FSA/HSA account?

I suggest you consult with your employer or accountant to understand what expenses are allowed under your current plan. While a healthcare membership is not considered insurance and falls under healthcare spending, the current IRS tax law prohibits using HSA funds for monthly recurring membership payments. However, you may be able to use your HSA funds for healthcare expenses that are not covered under membership, such as medications, lab tests, imaging, or one-time visit charges. Advocates in the direct primary care sector are actively working to amend this legislation to allow HSA funds to cover monthly membership.
